Dress for Success Brisbane

Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Brisbane, QLD, Australia

Dress for Success Brisbane is a non profit organisation established to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and life.

Dress for Success Brisbane, managed by Suited to Success Inc., is an affiliate of the global Dress for Success brand currently operating in 14 countries around the world assisting over 75,000 Women annually.

Our mission is “to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.”

We aim to break the cycle of long term unemployment by providing personalised one on one support offered free of charge, that not only addresses job search related activities but also on building self-esteem, confidence and life skills crucial for keeping a job and building a career.

We offer a holistic service of empowerment and support for every client who walks through our doors.

Our styling program volunteers offer a personal styling experience to our clients, firstly by asking questions about their future job and the ideal outfit; and secondly by assisting them in choosing the clothing, shoes, make-up and accessories, building a complete outfit which positively enhances their body shape and projects the professional image they seek, boosting their self-esteem and self-worth.
Clients then undergo a mock interview; learning to answer some of the most difficult yet commonly asked interview questions, and gain access to invaluable advice and mentoring from skilled volunteers, boosting their self-confidence.

A short time later we contact the client to inquire about their Interview and if they were successful we invite them to return for their second styling and invite them to join the Professional Women’s Group, a monthly networking group for women who have secured work and are looking for the next steps as they navigate the office environment, secure promotions and manage their finances.

If the client was unsuccessful, we encourage them to not to give up and invite them to the Breakfast Club, a 4 week pre-employment program, designed as a group exercise, offering clients access to skilled volunteers assisting in resume and cover letter preparation, personal presentation, confidence building, and interview preparation.

Clients requiring further assistance are then invited to our Career Centre program, a one on one career development program.

Since our launch in 2008, 3,250 clients have gained access to our programs and we are aiming to open our doors to a further 900 in 2014.
